Fisherman’s Salad is never spoken about enough. This salad is good enough to eat on its own for a quick and healthy lunch or dinner fix. With a seasoning so delicious and irresistible, I often forget I’m eating a salad in the first place.
The Simple Ingredients:
This salad is so simple yet so good. What really brings out its unique flavour is of course adding soy sauce – whether light or dark is up to your preference. I often use light as I prefer its flavour.
Fresh basil leaves are virtually non-negotiable in this recipe – they’re honestly so worth it. Basil really compliments this salad and takes it to a whole new level.
I also prefer to use red onion as I find the taste is much sweeter compared to white onion. This can be switched depending on your preference also.
How to make the salad?
Slice the onions finely – the thinner the better! I often find that onions have their best flavour and take in most seasonings when they are sliced as finely as possible, and are incredibly flimsy.
In a salad bowl combine the onions and salt, rubbing in the salt to spread it thoroughly over all of the onions. Once the onions are fully coated, squeeze any excess water from the onions and leave to the side.
Dice the tomatoes into large chunks, about half an inch in size. Slice the basil leaves finely, or leave whole if you prefer. Add the chopped tomato and the basil into the bowl with the onion. Add in the squeezed lemon, olive oil and soy sauce. Toss the salad until it is fully coated with all of the seasonings. Enjoy!
